Writing 101: Open Letter To Self-Respect
Writing 101, Day Fourteen: To Whom It May Concern
“Today’s Prompt: Pick up the nearest book and flip to page 29. What’s the first word that jumps off the page? Use this word as your springboard for inspiration. If you need a boost, Google the word and see what images appear, and then go from there.
Today’s twist: write the post in the form of a letter.”
Hi Self-esteem!
I know you are just a concept but I need to talk to you. I need to ask you to support me more often. I feel like I need you and I’m wondering why you desert me so often. Sometimes I feel unworthy. Sometimes, when I’m feeling low it seems like I have no respect for myself. I need your help!
I’ve been reading about you. Yes, it seems you are famous enough to have books written about you and a Wikipedia entry! Apparently you are a ‘basic human need or motivation’. Plus Wikipedia has this as well:
“Every human being, with no exception, for the mere fact to be it, is worthy of unconditional respect of everybody else; he deserves to esteem himself and to be esteemed.”
So I am worthy of respect, no matter what anyone says or what my thoughts might try and tell me! Self-respect, my friend, I deserve your help. I should be filled with your strength. I am human, therefore I deserve respect.
That stands for all people. We all deserve respect and we should care for and respect ourselves and each other as well. So, self-respect, have a care for all of us please!
With loving, kind regards,
Jake Kuyser
I’d say hell yeah! There could never be enough kindness. A good take on the letter. 🙂
